South Carolina Counties (Criminal, Civil) - Public Record Service Delay Notification

Jan 20, 2026

South Carolina has removed address information from all of their Public Access records. In addition, there are 9 counties*, along with all South Carolina Magistrate courts that are unwilling to validate identity. As a result, HireRight will begin processing South Carolina county searches without validation from these 9 counties and without validation from any of the Magistrate courts. This will result in a closing status of Search Attempted, Not Completed where we are unable to complete the search.

PBSA official guidance: customers should order the South Carolina statewide to augment the search.

Courts affected: Magistrate Court Cases: Magistrate cases primarily cover lower-level crimes, criminal traffic, and misdemeanor. *9 Counties Impacted: Berkeley, Chester, Cherokee, Greenville, Jasper, Lancaster, Spartanburg, Sumter, and Union. All cases in both Common Pleas and Magistrate Court in these counties. Common Pleas courts handle all felony and other criminal cases as well as civil cases.

There is no ETA at this time. HireRight will continue working with the source and will provide updates as we receive them.
